Potbelly Beijing Black pumpclip

The 12th Watford Beer Festival closed its doors at 11pm on Saturday 11th November 2006. Over the previous three days just under one thousand people had visited the event and tried some of the 60-odd beers and ciders that were on offer.

The numbers attending were very similar to last year, with a drop in attendance on Saturday afternoon compensated for by more visitors early on Thursday; obviously people who had wisely decided to turn up early and try all the beers before any ran out. In fact, we had an almost complete range of beers available going into Saturday this year, so there was plenty of choice for those who did turn up later.

Beer of the Festival this year was Beijing Black, a strong mild from Potbelly Brewery that also scooped the top award at the St. Albans Beer Festival in September. Congratulations to them and here is the list of the top ten beers:

  1. Potbelly Beijing Black
  2. Crouch Vale Brewers Gold
  3. Williams Brothers Róisín
  4. Bartrams Comrade Bill Bartrams Egalitarian Anti-Imperialist Soviet Stout
  5. Mighty Oak Tell T'Ale
  6. Garton Chocolate Frog
  7. Dark Star Hophead
  8. Wood Bonfire Brew
  9. Mighty Oak Saxon Strong
  10. = Stewarts Edinburgh No.3; Surrey Hills Shere Drop; Triple fff Moondance
